An Excellent Classroom Manipulative

The Declare Math card game is great for the classroom because it is so much more practical than either a traditional deck of cards or UNO cards. In addition, the Declare Math card game does have the best of both worlds by resembling both, and thus having more appeal for children in particular.

Like UNO cards, Declare Math cards are colorful and attractive. And, like traditional cards, Declare Math cards have 4 suits (red, blue, yellow, & green) with 13 cards in each suit numbered 0 through 12, as well as 2 wild cards. This results in 4 x 13 + 2 = 54 cards total just like a traditional deck of cards.

One advantage of using Declare Math cards is that they can be played in the classroom without any hang-ups whatsoever since many schools and school systems prohibit traditional cards and UNO cards from the classroom. The Declare Math card game solves this problem hands down. It virtually transforms your classroom into a learning center where math is without question the central theme. In fact, the cards even have the word "math" in the title as a constant reminder of the purpose of the lesson.

Another advantage to the Declare Math card game is that it is not complicated and requires no technology. After all, the whole purpose of Declare Math is to keep things simple and basic.

And, one of the best advantages of Declare Math cards is that students have such strong motivation on their own to play the game. With Declare Math, you don't have to beg (or pay) kids to learn. In fact, many teachers have gleefully reported back that they use the cards to induce good behavior, yet another great advantage.

Finally, the Declare Math board game is a wonderful classroom manipulative for helping students learn addition and subtraction. It is played similar to the board game "Bingo," but with a math twist. The board game only requires a minimum of one Declare Math card deck and is one of many free files to download. Each student can get his or her own personal board game. The teacher only needs to provide each student with a red, blue, yellow, or green game piece. The board game alone makes learning unbelievably fun for students and teachers alike.
